Lena Mackey- Anthropology Graduate
Lena is a recent graduate of Anthropology and Sociology who is passionate about local community projects and social justice, with a particular focus on Indigenous issues. Last year, she got nominated to attend the National Student Leadership Forum, a conference for budding young leaders to discuss servant leadership. In addition, her thesis research into the phenomena of ‘Volunteer Tourism has led Lena to focus her energy and skills on local community projects in Perth,and particularly those which open doors for vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens in Western Australia.
Lena is currently a volunteer at the Western Australian Council of Social Services, where she is involved in the DropIN project and the up-and-coming Emerging Issues Forum. The DropIN project is an exciting new social enterprise enabling non-for-profits, government and the community services sector to collaborate online. In the past, Lena has worked as a research assistant to Native Title anthropologists in Geraldton, as well as a tutor at the Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning Program (SAIL).
